The brief
We’ve been working together with Restaurant Brands on their KFC sites for two years, undertaking HVAC design and construction supervision for all of their project work around the country. This involves both new stores and refurbishment of their existing stores.
Our role
We ensure consistency across the stores HVAC design and ensure that the installations are completed to a high-quality every time. With each store, we endeavour to make incremental improvements to the design, based on our learnings from what has been successful with each project. We’ve just completed the construction phase on KFC Courtenay Place in Wellington, which was a significantly challenging project as the store is located on the ground floor of a two-story heritage building and is surrounded by apartments. This presented several difficulties to overcome within the design and construction phases. The installation of the HVAC equipment required detailed co-ordination of the crowded ceiling void as external site restrictions prohibited the roof as an option for the HVAC plant, which included the use of electrostatic air cleaners in the kitchen exhaust ductwork to remove grease and odour from the air prior to discharge.
Final outcome
So far we’ve completed eight KFC projects, with another six due in 2019-2020.
